چکیده
Not only do people make spaces, but also spaces make people. Acknowledgement First of all I want to thank my supervisors Carl Gustaf Jansson, Henrik Artman, and Robert Ramberg for their support and guidance in this work. In particular I am indebted to Calle for believing in me from the very beginning ; he made this thesis possible. As part of my doctoral studies I had the opportunity to spend almost two years at Laboratoire de Design Cognitif (LDC) at Electricité de France (EDF) R&D in Clamart, France. I am grateful to Saadi Lahlou, the director of the lab, for making my stay possible. Special thanks go to everyone at LDC who made my stay more pleasant. I also want to thank several other people: Bo Helgesson for inviting me to his lab at Blekinge Institute of Technology to hold an " interaction analysis seminar " on my early work, Aaron Cicourel for his indispensable comments on my work in France, Tessy Cerratto-Pargman for detailed comments on my work during my doctoral proposal seminar, Mathias Broth for feedback on approaches and methods, and Klas Karlgren for feedback on an earlier draft. Special thanks to Fatima Jonsson with whom I have shared many thoughts throughout this work, thanks so much Ylva Fernaeus for designing the cover illustration of the thesis, and thanks to all my colleagues at DSV with whom I shared the daily work environment. Thanks also to Jan Borchers at RWTH, Volker Hartkopf at CMU and Jim Hollan at UCSD for allowing me to include pictures from their labs in my thesis. Many thanks to Helen Snively for correcting my English with such enthusiasm and speed (any remaining errors are solely my responsibility). I also want to acknowledge the financial support that made this thesis far easier to conduct. The first part of the work was conducted within the iSpaces project, a project financed by Wallenberg Global Learning Network, in partnership with the Royal Institute of Technology and Stanford University. For the first part of my stay in France I received a Marie Curie Fellowship on Social Representation and Communication; thanks to Saadi Lahlou who is associated with l'Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris. The second half of my work was partly supported by an internship at EDF R&D. Finally, thanks to family and friends. Above all I want to express my gratitude to my …

Addressing the Dilema Between Collaboration and Privacy in Coworking Spaces
This paper aims to inform design strategies for regulating privacy in coworking spaces. Coworking spaces are growing at a high rate, yet studies related to the social, psychological, behavioral and physical needs associated with these environments are limited. The growth of coworking spaces is in greater part facilitated by a drive towards greater interaction and collaboration among the workfor...
متن کاملCompilation of components of urban architectural spaces durability emphasizing the of everyday life rhythms (Case study: Tabriz Bazaar)
Persistent spaces and phenomena over time and load and become part of collective memories. In this way, paying attention to the durability of space design increases the sense of belonging to space, in this case space does not belong only to the present. Considering the importance of sustainability, the purpose of this study is to identify the factors affecting the survival of urban spaces, with...
متن کاملUrban neighborhood regeneration; Interpretive structural modeling of the factors affecting connected public spaces
Urban planning has emphasized quicker, lighter, and cheaper methods in recent years. According to urban studies, urban public spaces are valuable factors for urban neighborhood regeneration. Although, the concept of the network (connectivity in public spaces) is not new, and various authors and researchers had applied and adapted it to different areas of urban planning, it would be a new approa...
متن کاملAn approach towards effective ecological planning: Quantitative analysis of urban green space characteristics
In the best practices, planning of urban green spaces is managed in such a way that it follows the key principles such as meeting per capita standards and providing accessible and balanced distribution of these spaces all across the city. In the context of emerging economy, these principles are unfortunately not followed strictly all times. In this study, it is attempted to investigate Tabriz c...
متن کاملExploring the Patterns of In-Between Spaces in Guilan Historical Houses
The aim of this paper is to explain the spatial patterns of in-between spaces in Guilan historical houses in order to show their potential capacity in having various functions, and thus different forms, in the course of history. In-between spaces are mediators between two other spaces making them accessible or visible for each other. An explanation of their spatial patterns can both reveal the ...
متن کاملFisher’s Linear Discriminant Analysis for Weather Data by reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces framework
Recently with science and technology development, data with functional nature are easy to collect. Hence, statistical analysis of such data is of great importance. Similar to multivariate analysis, linear combinations of random variables have a key role in functional analysis. The role of Theory of Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Spaces is very important in this content. In this paper we study a gen...
